About the Role: Principal Data Scientist, Search - Telecommute The Optum Unified Search Team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Data Scientist to lead the integration of data across the Optum/United Healthcare enterprise into our expanding Unified Search Platform. As a key member of our geographically distributed yet cohesive team, you will collaborate closely with Engineering, Platform, and Product teams, as well as numerous stakeholders across the business, to drive innovation in search technology and user experiences for tens of millions of healthcare consumers and providers. Key Responsibilities Advanced Analytics and Modeling: Apply advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques to optimize healthcare and digital experiences. Innovative Problem-Solving: Propose innovative ways to tackle complex problems using data mining, statistical analysis, and machine learning. Effective Communication: Communicate findings verbally and visually to business partners and clients, ensuring clarity and impact. Data Integrity and Innovation: Seek out new data sources and verify the integrity of data to fill gaps and improve models. Business Needs and Analytics: Support business needs around analytics, predictive modeling, and business intelligence. Collaboration and Transformation: Collaborate effectively with internal clients, transforming their needs into data science use cases. Ongoing Improvement: Provide ongoing tracking and monitoring of statistical models' performance and recommend improvements to methods and algorithms. Essential Qualifications and Skills To excel in this role, you should possess: A Master's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, (Bio) Statistics, Applied Statistics, Economics, or similar quantitative fields of study. Hands-on experience in developing analytics with machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and/or other related modeling techniques. Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and/or PySpark. The ability to turn state-of-the-art research into production-level codes. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and documentation. An interest in working with complex data and building new mechanisms for different domains. Leadership and mentoring capabilities for junior engineers. Preferred Qualifications While not mandatory, having the following qualifications can further enhance your candidacy: A Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, (Bio) Statistics, Applied Statistics, Economics, or similar quantitative fields of study. Experience in developing and deploying models related to recommender systems, NLP, and time series forecasting. Experience with algorithms for financial forecasting, search engines, cold-start recommendation, and semi-supervised learning. Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
