About the position The Principal Associate for U.S. Conservation at The Pew Charitable Trusts will engage in public policy campaigns aimed at enhancing biodiversity conservation and ecosystem resilience in the Southern Appalachian region. This role involves developing and implementing strategies to protect and restore natural resources while collaborating with various stakeholders, including government officials and partner organizations. The position is based in Washington, D.C., with a flexible work-from-home policy. Responsibilities • Foster a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible work environment. • Lead or co-lead efforts to advance policies that increase resilience for nature and people in the southern U.S. • Conduct policy research and provide recommendations for policy and regulatory solutions. • Cultivate and manage relationships with partner organizations, scientists, government representatives, and other stakeholders. • Represent Pew at meetings and discussions with stakeholders, including government officials. • Plan and organize stakeholder meetings, conferences, and events. • Collaborate with project leadership and other colleagues to coordinate Pew's regional presence. • Participate in activities that support program and Pew-wide objectives. Requirements • Experience with leading or assisting public policy initiatives and working with diverse partners. • Ability to apply a non-partisan, evidence-based approach to projects and campaigns. • Skilled in written and oral communications to inform and influence audiences. • Excellent time and project management skills. • Capacity to move projects forward with a high degree of autonomy. • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. • Generally, six years of applicable experience. Nice-to-haves • Campaign experience in the southern Appalachian region (VA, WV, KY, TN, NC, SC, GA, AL) preferred. • Experience developing relationships with elected officials and agency officials. • Experience supporting shared goals with traditionally disadvantaged communities. • Knowledge of conservation finance tools and freshwater conservation preferred. • Experience with public speaking preferred.
