About the Role: The Medical Records Specialist I (MRS I) is responsible for maintaining, organizing, and managing patient health information in compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies. This role ensures the accuracy, confidentiality, and security of medical records while supporting care teams and external facilities with timely access to information. The MRS I is detail-oriented, efficient, and knowledgeable about health information management systems and regulations such as HIPAA. Responsibilities • Collect, organize, maintain, and update patient medical records and information within the EMR system. • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of medical records by reviewing documents for errors or omissions. • Upload and retrieve records in accordance with established policies and procedures. • Safeguard patient information by following HIPAA and organizational confidentiality protocols. • Regularly audit records to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards. • Respond to requests for medical records from healthcare providers, insurance companies, and legal entities. • Assist patients with accessing their medical records while adhering to privacy guidelines. • Verify the legibility and completeness of medical records. • Coordinate with healthcare providers to address discrepancies or missing information. • Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications • LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) or equivalent certification. • 1+ years of professional experience in medical records management or a related healthcare setting. • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, health information systems, and HIPAA regulations. • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. • Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, staff, and external entities. • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Physical Demands Work is performed 100% from home with no requirement to travel. This is a stationary position that requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards as well as to talk or hear by telephone. Sit or stand as needed.
