Life Fellow (January 2026)

Business Insider is hiring a fellow to join our Life team to write compelling slideshows for our on-site and partner audiences. The Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This role requires you to work for 40 hours a week and work two days a week in our NYC office. The Role & Team: As a Life fellow, you will create general-interest slideshows across newsroom verticals, with a particular focus on real estate. You will keep an eye on what's trending to produce timely stories, and you will also be encouraged to pitch new stories and experiences you can write about. You will be part of the Editorial Partnerships team, whose goal is to pitch and write stories that resonate with audiences across our partner sites, which include MSN, Yahoo, and Apple News. This role reports directly to the Deputy Editor of Editorial Partnerships and sits on the Life team. Key Responsibilities: • Pitch, research, and write compelling slideshows for Business Insider and our news partners, which include MSN, Yahoo, and Apple News • Produce stories across multiple topics, including real estate, in a timely manner • Identify real-estate visual features, including one-of-a-kind listings, property transformations, and city rankings • Write stories that are accurate, properly researched, error-free, and in line with Business Insider reporting standards • Hone SEO best practices and become adept at Business Insider's style of headline writing • Consistently brainstorm new ideas based on our editorial calendar, what's trending, and what's resonating with partner audiences The ideal candidate has: • A background in journalism and experience working at a digital publication or within a newsroom • Previous experience with pitching, fact-checking, interviewing, and copy-editing • An interest in covering a wide range of topics and an understanding of what makes a strong visual story • A creative mind that is always coming up with new ideas and approaches to stories • A curiosity about the performance data and the ability to think critically about it • A self-starter attitude and strong organizational and communication skills • A love of Business Insider and what we do Additionally, all of our editorial fellows should have: • A passion for digital storytelling and voracious reading habits • Familiarity with digital and social media • The ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team • Proofreading and copyediting skills • A love of Business Insider and our mission to serve readers with the information and inspiration they need in a way that's accurate, fair, fast, and fun Salary & Benefits: • Fellows are paid $20 per hour (overtime when needed and approved) • PTO and paid holidays • Eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits on 91st day of employment Please apply with a resume and cover letter and specify why you're interested in working on this team.
