Geographic Information Systems Manager

We are seeking a high-level GIS Manager to lead GIS operations, support major fiber design projects, and oversee a combination of internal staff and contractor resources. This role requires strong technical GIS expertise and proven experience managing people, coordinating complex workflows, and interacting directly with clients. This individual will play a critical leadership role as the company prepares for large scale, multi-year fiber deployment initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Management • Oversee GIS teams of up to six direct reports per manager. • Manage internal team members and external contractors. • Maintain team cohesion and communication. • Guide junior GIS staff. Project Management • Lead GIS efforts for large scale fiber buildout projects. • Fiber route design and optimization. • Integration of ESRI ArcGIS designs. • High volume data manipulation. • Creation of construction drawings and permitting documents. • Coordination of pole application workflows. • Ensure throughput up to 1M+ feet per month. Technical Responsibilities • Senior GIS subject matter expert. • Strong proficiency with QGIS is preferred. • Support translation between ESRI ArcGIS and internal systems. • Evaluate tools and scripts. • Support proprietary tool development. Collaboration & Communication • Cross functional planning. • Communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Maintain strong remote communication habits. Required Qualifications: • Advanced GIS expertise with strong QGIS knowledge. • Experience managing people and projects. • Ability to speak GIS technical language. • Experience with high volume geospatial projects. • Strong communication and team leadership. • U.S.-based; must live in Mountain, Central, or Eastern Time Zone Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in fiber design, telecom, utilities, gas, or power. • Experience building GIS tools or scripts. • Experience managing projects and leading teams. • Background with multi-year infrastructure deployment. • Experience with subcontractor coordination. • Familiarity with AutoCAD.
