We're now seeking an experienced Inpatient Coder II to join our team in a remote capacity, working collaboratively with our Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) team to drive accurate coding and optimal reimbursement. Job Overview As an Inpatient Coder II, you'll play a critical role in analyzing medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines. You'll work closely with our CDI team to optimize Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) assignments and collaborate with management to resolve problems and meet deadlines. Key Responsibilities Assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, creating DRG assignments and abstracting pertinent information from patient records. Sequence diagnoses and procedures using coding guidelines, optimizing DRG assignments as applicable, and apply present on admission (POA) indicators. Communicate with CDI on mismatches, including DRG, principal diagnosis selection, and other relevant coding issues. Query physicians when code assignments are unclear or documentation is inadequate. Maintain a four-day turnaround time for inpatient coding, meeting productivity standards and collaborating with other departments to achieve monthly goals. Participate in ongoing coding educational webinars and review individually audited cases, providing rebuttals as needed. Contribute to the development of coding policies and procedures. Qualifications and Requirements Education High School Diploma or GED (Required) Program Graduate, Health Information Management Services (HIMS) or related field (Preferred) Experience 3-4 years of active inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting (Required) Skills and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, human disease processes, clinical science, anatomy, and physiology. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present information in an organized and professional manner. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, encoder software (3M 360 preferred), and electronic medical records (EMR) systems (EPIC preferred).
