About the Role As a Healthcare Underwriting Representative, you'll be part of a dynamic team assessing risk for Medicare Supplement and a portfolio of supplemental products, including Whole Life and Cancer and Heart plans. You'll work closely with agents and applicants to resolve underwriting requirements and decisions, utilizing your problem-solving and analytical skills to drive results. Key Responsibilities Accurate Risk Assessment: Evaluate medical history according to established underwriting criteria, reviewing enrollment applications and third-party data to assist with risk evaluation. Product Knowledge: Develop a deep understanding of our product offerings and underwriting criteria to accurately assess enrollment applications. Effective Communication: Reach out to applicants to clarify medical history, asking probing questions related to medical history or prescription usage as needed. Timely Application Reviews: Complete application reviews within established turnaround times to meet service level targets. Clear Decision Communication: Create accurate and complete written correspondence when communicating underwriting decision details for denied coverage. Collaboration and Teamwork: Build and maintain strong relationships with other members of the new business team, including the UW Support Team. Essential Qualifications To succeed in this role, you'll need: Healthcare Underwriting Experience: A minimum of 1+ year of prior healthcare underwriting experience. Medical Knowledge: Prior medical insurance-related work experience or medical knowledge is required. Critical Thinking Skills: Strong critical thinking skills to accurately assess risk and make informed decisions. Excellent Communication Skills: Above-average verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with agents, applicants, and internal stakeholders. Technical Skills: Proficiency in bolthires Office, specifically Word and Excel, as well as intermediate PC skills. Remote Work Experience: Experience working in a remote environment is highly desirable. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications can enhance your application: Advanced Medical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of medical conditions and prescriptions.
