Engineering Manager

Location: Remote (Manila, Philippines) Hours: Full-time, with partial overlap with UK business hours Employment Type: Remote.com full time employment contract We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Engineering team, based in Manila, Philippines This role will be responsible for managing a team of engineers, overseeing the development and collaborating closely with Product Managers, Designers, and the Agile Delivery Manager. You’ll play a critical part in driving technical excellence and building strong connections across our primarily UK-based team. Who are we? Day in the Life Manage a team of 4 engineers, including recruitment and onboarding. Oversee the development and delivery of features within the assigned product area. Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and the Agile Delivery Manager. Implement and maintain Scrum methodology with 2-week sprints. Conduct regular one-on-ones and team meetings. Participate in bi-weekly Stakeholder Demos. Manage technical debt and refactoring efforts. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning. What You Bring to the Team Proven experience in engineering management or team leadership. Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, particularly Scrum and Kanban. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to mentor and develop engineering talent. Experience with continuous integration and deployment practices. Familiarity with cloud technologies, particularly AWS. Understanding of microservices architecture and containerisation (Kubernetes). Beneficial Knowledge Experience with PHP and Laravel framework. Familiarity with AWS services, particularly RDS and EKS. Knowledge of database technologies, including MySQL and Redis. Experience with or willingness to learn Kafka and Databricks. Understanding of frontend technologies and frameworks. Additional Requirements for Manila-based Candidates Timezone flexibility: Must be comfortable working with some overlap with UK business hours (GMT/BST) to collaborate effectively with the majority of the team. Location: Must be legally eligible to work in the Philippines. Passport Requirement: Must hold a valid Philippine passport (for identity verification and compliance with Remote.com ). Language: Must be fluent in English (written and spoken) to collaborate with our global team. Remote Work Setup: Reliable internet connection and a workspace that supports effective remote work.
