Country Director – Mexico

The National Audubon Society is a leading nonprofit conservation organization with 120 years of science-based, community-driven impact, dedicated to protecting birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow. Birds are powerful indicators of our planet’s health, acting as sentinels that warn us of environmental change and inspire action. The Mexico Country Director (CD) will be responsible for the effective development and implementation of Audubon’s conservation work across Mexico, ensuring alignment with the best enabling conditions to be effective and contributing to the aspirations of the different stakeholders in the country and Audubon’s goals. For these purposes, the CD manages effective coordination among team members and with government agencies and private and civil society organizations in the country. The CD will build, grow, and manage a small team to implement the conservation, policy and operations agenda in Mexico and work with others to integrate this work across the Americas. This position reports to the Vice President, Latin America and the Caribbean. Qualifications and Experience: 10 years of related experience, preferably in or associated with the conservation and sustainability arena, non-profit or for-profit. Experience in a leadership role preferred. A dynamic, high-level strategic thinker, a great spokesperson, and an effective manager. Commitment to Audubon’s organizational values of care, collaboration, change, integrity, impact, and innovation. Bird and habitat conservation work and experience is an important plus. Record of accomplishment in policy and public finance. Ability on working with partners and building coalitions. An outstanding team player. Management experience including leading and managing a multi-disciplinary team. Written and verbal fluency in English and Spanish are required. Superb communication and presentation skills required. Experience communicating with and presenting to diverse audiences including donors, board members, employees, outside partners, or equivalent. Experience in fundraising and budget management. Ability to work effectively with others in a decentralized, geographically dispersed organization. Experience fostering inclusive and collaborative work environments is valued.
