Contract Nurse Writer - Letters of Medical Necessity (DEEOIC)

Remote, USA Full-time
Description: This is a contractor position with the option to become a full time employee with benefits following adequate demonstration of skill with measurable outcomes over the 90 day probationary period. We are recruiting a Nurse Writer with specialized competence in drafting Letters of Medical Necessity (LMNs) for claimants under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (DEEOIC). This position exists to combat systemic delay and deter tactics carried out by the DOL in an effort to deny medically necessary care, often caused by inadequate clinical framing and contractor-driven misapplication of federal standards. The Nurse Writer is responsible for producing medically rigorous, regulation-aligned, and adjudicator-facing documentation that directly supports authorization of care and withstands federal scrutiny. This is not general medical writing. It is clinical advocacy within a federal compensation program. Compensation will be determined with experience and demonstrated DEEOIC expertise Requirements: • Draft original, claimant-specific Letters of Medical Necessity that: • Establish medical necessity under 20 CFR Part 30 • Explicitly connect requested care to accepted DEEOIC conditions • Align with DEEOIC Procedure Manual requirements and adjudicatory expectations • Translate medical records into structured clinical arguments suitable for Department of Labor claims and medical benefit examiners as well as FAB reviewers. • Identify and neutralize predictable denial rationales through proactive medical and regulatory framing. • Draft rebuttals and supplemental LMNs in response to medical necessity development. • Collaborate with treating providers while maintaining independent clinical judgment and documentation integrity. • Ensure all statements are supported by objective medical evidence and program policy. • Maintain strict compliance with ethical documentation standards and confidentiality requirements. Required Qualifications • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license (BSN required; MSN preferred). • Minimum five (5) years of clinical nursing experience. • Demonstrated proficiency in medical necessity writing, utilization review, or appeal documentation. • Strong working knowledge of DEEOIC/EEOICPA or documented ability to rapidly master federal compensation frameworks. • Advanced clinical writing skills with precision, clarity, and legal defensibility. • Ability to work independently in a high-accountability environment. Preferred Experience • Prior DEEOIC or EEOICPA claims involvement. • Experience in occupational illness, oncology, pulmonology, neurology, chronic pain, or toxic exposure-related conditions. • Familiarity with SEM exposure data, NIOSH dose reconstruction, and exposure-related disease progression. • Experience rebutting medical necessity denials in federal or administrative law settings. Professional Expectations • Zero reliance on boilerplate or insurer-centric language. • Strict adherence to evidence-based documentation. • Timely completion of assignments without compromise to quality or accuracy. • Professional conduct consistent with claimant advocacy and federal compliance obligations.
