Assistant Data Analyst, Bureau of Early Intervention

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is dedicated to protecting and improving the health of New Yorkers. They are seeking an Assistant Data Analyst to support the Early Intervention Program by developing and running data reports, managing data quality, and providing administrative support to the Research and Analysis Unit. Responsibilities Learn EI program operations as they pertain to this role Learn both the front and back ends of the EI-Hub data management system including the relational table structure, commonly used tables and fields, and approaches for investigating new inquiries With increasing independence, write, execute, and troubleshoot analyses in both SAS and R and call and write macros, match and merge data, and clean and prepare tables for analysis in both SAS and R Output accurate, well-formatted and completely documented reports Accurately and comprehensively carry out quality assurance and data management activities including copying and pasting data between two data systems, compiling data from multiple sources into clean and actionable spreadsheets, manual cleaning of free text data fields, manual review of matches, address verification, repetitive production of standardized reports, etc Produce data visualization products including slides, dashboards and maps Provide administrative and research support to the Director of Research and Analysis, including completing administrative paperwork (e.g., emergency contact lists, requests for office supplies, travel requests and justifications), taking and distributing meeting minutes, orienting new staff to Data Unit roles and functions, searching the internet, carrying out ad hoc investigations, preparing IRB materials, conducting literature reviews, and drafting, reviewing and editing written materials Provide ad hoc support to and coverage for other Data Unit members Skills A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization Education and/or experience which is equivalent to '1' or '2' above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in '2' above Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in '1' and '2' above Proficiency in the use of SAS for data management and statistical analysis Experience in the use of R preferred Excellent oral, written, and visual communication skills Attention to detail Strong conceptual thinking and the ability to quickly learn a complex new content area Organizational and time-management skills and ability to work independently Proven ability to work collaboratively An interest in and familiarity with the Early Intervention Program A commitment to promoting equitable access to Early Intervention services Benefits A premium-free health insurance plan that saves employees over $10K annually, per a 2024 assessment.
